I have way too much time on my hands. Kin thought while running a brush through her hair. She took a look at her closet picking out shorts, a t-shirt, and threw on a pair of sneakers. After her run in with Terian Kin almost always wore tennis shoes or shoes she could run in. If she found a shifter on the streets it was hard to run after them in any other shoes that sneakers. She stared at Terian's sword across the room. She ran her fingers over the cool, smooth metal and wondered if bringing his sword with her would add a little too much insult to injury. After pondering the thought for a few seconds Kin came to the conclusion that it didn't matter; he was a shifter so if he was angry or sad because Kin was rubbing salt in a wound it didn't matter.
Sure, Kin would feel some sort of regret for putting a shifter underground and in a cage, but at the same time, she didn't. There wasn't a reason to pity them and though sometimes a shifter would claim that it their species had come to earth and tried to take over as the humans did to Cambria, that they would have been more tolerant of the humans. But Kin didn't believe it. It just wasn't in human or animal nature to calmly leave and tolerate other species. If the lion found a new habitat that was occupied by another species that suited their needs better than their original habitat they would try to occupy the new habitat. If the other species didn't want the lions there, the lions wouldn't simply tolerate the second species. They would fight and try to occupy the new habitat. In a way, the humans defeat of the shifters and their capture was similar to survival of the fittest. The humans were better equipped for the war against the shifters and thus won the fight. When put into the context of natural selection and survival of the fittest, it was morally okay for humans, and in particular SEG, to hunt down shifters as they did. Most of the time, shifters or even humans wanted more to the reasoning behind hunting down shape shifters other than just because they are different, the natural selection piece always shut up the shifters and shape shifter rights activists.
Every soldier in SEG had different reasons for why they were in SEG whether it was the death of a loved one killed in the war or just because they thought that shifters needed to be eliminated for what they were. When Kin first joined the military, she had made many friends and had been happy on Cambria, Kin had even found a nice guy who she fell in love with. The war broke out and left all of her friends eight feet under, her boyfriend was the first to go. Kin had no where and no one to turn to after she left the military. Her parents had all but disowned her for leaving and joining the military after they paid for college so she could become a doctor on earth. Kin had no where else to turn her grief to. They only way she now thought she could find any sort of closure is by seeing all the shifters locked away or dead like her friends were. The thought gave her more confidence to go and see Terian in his cage, to see another shifter locked away. She grabbed the sword before heading out.
Kin got a cab to take her to SEG because she wasn't going to walk all the way there. She had ran halfway there luring Terian into a trap, but she had been desperate then; the clock was ticking and her chances of capture were getting slimmer by the second. Kin relived the night while staring out the window at the less that interesting scenery. ”So what a girl like you doing with a sword like that? I guess you're in SEG but don't they use guns?” Asked the cabbie unexpectedly. ”Huh? Oh, the sword, it's a long story.” Kin said feeling a little embarrassed for being so surprised by a simple question. Both Kin and the cabbie looked the the clock it had been about half an hour since Kin had been picked up, there was at least thirty more minutes of driving. ”I got nothing but time to hear your story.” The driver said smiling. And with nothing better to do for the rest of the drive, Kin told her story about her run in with Terian and why she had his sword. After Kin was done, they still had a few minutes to spare before they arrived at the front gate. ”For the longest time I thought that SEG was just a band of murderers.” Kin rolled her eyes. She couldn't care less about the guys opinion, but the idea was ridiculous. If everyone thought that, then there would be some problems, but besides that there was no debating that the man was an idiot. ”Thanks for the ride.” Kin said stepping out of the cab, still a little angry about his stupid ideas about SEG.
Apparently, Kin wasn't the only one to go teasing her raid victims. There were others and though the scream fests with the caged up shifters weren't smiled upon, they weren't frowned upon either. Hey, some soldiers were really enjoying it as well, Kin knew she would. Terian's cell was exactly where it was supposed to be. It was funny looking at the shifters through the glass, it was like little fishes, but you could tap the glass and wouldn't get yelled for scaring the creatures inside. So Kin knocked on the glass wanting to get Terian's attention. She smiled a big and showy little smile and said, ”Hey there.”

Terian was glad that he had markers with him. Ever since he had come to this city and found out that there were devices that allowed the inking of paper and other things, he had made sure to at least keep a few in his pockets at all times, in case the need for drawing called to him.
Right now he had green and red markers. At first he was afraid that they wouldn’t show up on the dark walls, but the green and red managed to show up pretty nicely. The SEG people didn’t really seem to mind, but they made him clean it off every day. Terian didn’t really mind though, he didn’t have anything else to do after all. Right then he was humming to himself as he drew a horse. He decided not to think about how he would never be able to change back into his horse form and run free along the prairies and the woods. But drawing a horse was calming to him, because he loved them a lot.
He was starting to miss his job at the Ranch, but he had already decided that once he got out of here he was going to go back to living with his family. They’d just have to get used to living off the land again. Terian flipped his hair over his shoulders and decided to draw his little brother. He wondered if they were worried about him, since he hadn’t shown up in awhile.
Cutting off from his drawing for a second he placed his markers down and pulled his hair around to the front of him and stood up. He grinned brightly when he saw that his hair had grown a few inches. "Well that’s the only good thing about being in here I guess, my hair doesn’t get ripped out." He giggled to himself. Terian then sat down and began to work again.
He only stopped again when he heard a voice behind him. He looked back and was slightly happy to see Kin. At least he wasn’t alone now. "Oh, hi Kin!" Terian greeted her with a smile before turning back to his art. He decided that no matter what he did, Kin wasn’t going to change her opinion of him, and he also decided that being upset and sulky was doing nothing for his situation. He really wanted his sword back though, but he decided that he could always ask Adrian to help him make a new one, it just wouldn’t have the sentimental value the other one had.

As if Kin was the one running the lines across the wall, Kin watched meticulously as Terian made each line to his drawing. At first each picture wasn't clear, a straight line here, a squiggly one connected to it, but after he added more lines the image started to surface. A horse, a kid, Kin wished she was better at drawing looking at his artwork. In the back of her mind Kin wondered why the heck he was allowed to draw on the walls in the first place. She shrugged it off not wanting to focus on the inner workings of SEG and their prisoners.
Oh, hi Kin!” Terian greeted happily and with a smile. WHAT THE! Kin almost had a spazz attack. He turned back to his art and kept drawing. Kin kicked the glass knowing she wasn't going to hurt the heavy duty panes and yelled, Why the hell are you so damn happy to see me!” He had no reason to be chipper at her sudden appearance. Unless he had gone completely insane in the little cell. Kin growled under her breath and plopped herself down on the floor. It took her a second to adjust the sword so it wasn't digging into her side as she sat down and eventually found a comfortable position.
What can I do to tick him off? She placed her head in her hands and her elbows on her knees. Kin stared a hole into the shifters back wondering what would start a mini riot from Terian. Obviously, he wasn't bitter about being captured so just being there and throwing around some words wasn't going to get him angry. He was pretty concerned about his sword the last time she saw him, maybe that would make him mad. He didn't seem like he noticed it before anyways.
”Yoo hoo, Terian.” Kin called. She waved his sword in the air. Come to think of the fact, she hadn't unsheathed it since she got it so now could a be a good time. She pulled it from its sheath and revealed a much less impressive blade than the last time she'd seen it. It was dirty and even starting to rust. Certainly that had made it more delicate than its original state. She wondered if enough pressure would be enough to make it... Kin put a foot on one side of the blade and held the hilt with both her hands. Her foot pushed forward and her hands pulled backward until- SNAP! The blade broke in two. ”Oops, didn't mean to go that far.” Kin lied through her teeth. It wasn't her full intention to break the blade but she had tried anyways and the deed was done. She also knew she was safe behind the glass, it was wholly unbreakable. ”Sorry about that” More lies. If he could make the s word he could repair it anyways. She left the sword out for him to look at it and gaze in what Kin expected to be as his worst nightmare. That and his siblings being killed. He said something about siblings one time. Kin recalled. The girl knew the sword was enough torture for now. She laughed a bit under her breath and waited for the fireworks to begin.

Terian blinked in surprise at Kin’s anger. He didn’t really think that saying hi to her would really piss her off. He began to shade his drawing when he heard Kin call to get his attention. He turned around and his eyes widened when he saw that Kin was slowly bending his precious sword backwards until the rusted and dirty metal broke under the girl’s strong grip.
He reached out a hand with a gasp, as if that could stop the breaking of his delicate sword. He stared at the shards in shock, feeling as if his heart exploded in his chest and was splintering his internal organs.
Terian looked up at Kin with shock before his green blue eyes slowly began to burn with anger. "H-How could you..." He said quietly, his voice shaking. The blonde’s mind was suddenly filled with memories of when he was constructing the sword, begging his sister for his mother’s pieces of jewelry, taking the shirt that his father loved to wear out of the bag of belongings he took with him when they fled the city.
He also remembered sneaking into a town, meeting Adrian, and meeting the best friend he had ever known. He remembered Adrian teaching him and helping him create the sword from scratch, making sure that each detail was covered. For two years he did that.
Tears began to pour down from his eyes and he wished that he could go back to those times. He felt his rage build and he knew that if he didn’t control himself he would do something he would regret, something that could prevent him from getting out of this horrible place. Suddenly pictures of his little brother flew into his mind. He remembered the sweet smile that Raen would give him, the innocent gaze that the boy would always give him, giving him the will to continue on.
Terian’s anger slowly began to freeze over as more pictures of the times with his family filled his mind. The tears didn’t stop however, and Terian wasn’t sure when they would. Slowly he let out a breath of angry air and closed his eyes. With a small growl he opened his eyes and glared at Kin. "I’m glad causing pain amuses you so, it only proves my opinion that SEG is just a selfish, sadistic group that can’t stand people different from themselves." He knew that Kin probably didn’t care what he said, but that made him feel better that he was able to speak what he was thinking. With that he sat and turned his back to her, continuing his drawing with a little more force than before.

”H-how could you?” The shifter cried out. His eyes filled with horror. The thought that Kin may have gone too far crossed her mind be she quickly dismissed it. She knew that if he could make the thing, he could repair it too. The blade was only in two pieces, for someone who made such an ornate piece he could fix a split blade. But yet tears and rage started to fill his expression and he made no effort to try and hide his emotions.
Why shouldn't he have been caused pain anyways? Kin looked to the broken sword with the slightest bit of satisfaction. Now you're getting whats yours.” When the thought of shifters came to mind, the only memories were that of hate and sorrow. Or thoughts of bloodshed and heartache. Fear, hatred, anxiety, death, apprehension, horror, grievance, affliction, loathing, hostility, abhorrence, animosity, detestation, and anguish were only a few things that Kin associated with shifters and her memories and knowledge of them. That didn't include that Kin knew they were unnatural creatures and should be shut away in fairy tales. They deserved to all die and rot in cages. They could all be killed and brutally murdered for all Kin cared. Kin looked at Terian with just as much hatred as he did. ”I'm glad causing pain amuses you so, it only proves my opinion that SEG is just a selfish sadistic group that can't stand people different from themselves.” Kin stood up and kicked the sword toward the glass making one half of the blade clang against the glass loudly. Hopefully it did some more damage to his blade. Kin felt somewhat sorry for him being locked up in his cage, but a lowly shifter saying that SEG was a group of selfish sadists was something Kin wasn't going to stand for.
”You know what! Tell it to someone who fucking cares! You little filthy creatures belong in cages and cells and should be locked away forever and ever until you die! SEG isn't a group of sadists we are doing what is good for our kind, maybe you should have thought of working with us when you had the chance and did what was good for both our species. Maybe you wouldn't be in that cell if you species would have been smarter. Don't go placing the blame on SEG! You ignorant shifter!” Kin spat out quickly and furiously. She punched at the glass completely enraged and imagined she had hit Terian in the face with her punch. Irrevocable rage filled Kin's body, suddenly she wanted Terian to be out of his cell so she could get next to him and punch him, kick him, beat him until he was unconscious or dead. His ignorance of reality was appalling to say the least and Kin wanted to knock some sense into him the hard way. ”Well what the hell do you have to say to that!” Kin yelled again. She wasn't here to comfort him or be nice, she was here to cause him torment and pain, and so far it was working. On the surface, Kin was spitting angry but deep inside part of her was enjoying screaming at a shifter while the only thing he could do was nothing but take the verbal abuse.

Terian sighed to himself as his anger slowly melted away. To further help with calming his emotions, he began to draw suns and flowers and happy things on the walls. Although his sun looked rather strange considering it was green, but his flowers looked pretty cute.
Terian was only vaguely listening to what Kin was saying. From all the rants that she’s thrown out at him when he expressed his opinion seemed to show him that Kin had a hard life in the past, and that was because of the shifters. He felt bad for the girl, and he felt bad for saying what he did. Despite the fact he was in a cage because of the girl, his kind nature refused to let him be mean to people, or hold a grudge. He was definitely not like his sister, who could be mad at a person forever. And ever.
The blond pulled his long hair over his shoulder and began to braid it absentmindedly. "I don’t really know what to say to that. I didn’t actually mean to say what I did, I was just very upset. " He was almost half way done with braiding his hair. "Look, I wasn’t here when the humans first came, or when you had that war with the shifters, I was away with my family. " He sighed and began to run his fingers through his hair to un-do the braid. He looked up at Kin and tilted his head. "So, I’m sorry. "
He looked down at what was left of his sword and felt a pang of sadness. He wondered how much of the jewelry of his mother was left in that piece of metal. When he first made the sword he made sure to spread the jewelry pieces in the entire thing, but it was pretty hard to determine. He pouted lightly, "Oh well, " He thought with a mental sigh, "It IS just a sword anyway…"

Kin was fuming; like he was in any place to go throwing around words like he did. He turned back to his art as if Kin had never yelled it him in the first place. And the next words he spoke were void of animosity. "I don’t really know what to say to that. I didn’t actually mean to say what I did, I was just very upset. " Kin was about to start yelling and screaming until he spoke once more. She held the words in her throat so that once he finished with whatever nonsense he could spout out. "Look, I wasn’t here when the humans first came, or when you had that war with the shifters, I was away with my family. So, I’m sorry. " That was it, time to let her words spill out.
”Didn’t mean to say what you said? How does that work? You wouldn’t have said it if you didn’t mean it! Your species was here, I wasn’t blaming you directly, idiot! Don’t be sorry, because it’s too damn late for that.” Kin pounded on the glass again. By now, her punches and jocks were starting to kill her knuckles. She squeezed her hand open and closed making sure she wasn’t bruising muscle tissue or anything like that. Ignorant, and overly cheerful; two of Kin’s least favorite traits and on top of that, he was a shifter; a dirty little shifter. She could have sworn she saw something on his face that she couldn’t believe he was feeling: pity. It was like he felt bad for her for something. What the hell is wrong with you? Kin sneered. The girl kicked the glass again then dropped to the ground. She shoved one piece of the sword in the sheath and then the half with the hilt still attached. She noticed the shifter eying the sword. ”What? You know this is nothing less of what you deserve.” She said while glaring at him. ”Don’t get so fucking upset about it like a baby. You made the sword, you can fix it can’t you?” She crossed her arms and legs defensively while still giving him the death glare.

"I’m the baby? I’m not the one who came down here just to start a confrontation." Terian thought with an eye roll. He decided that he didn’t feel like saying anything out loud anymore, especially if she was just going to get angry at him for expressing his opinion. He pouted. He began to look around his cell with a bored expression before looking at his drawings. He tilted his head and began to think of what to draw. Terian smiled and drew a quick picture of his bestest best buddy Roi (Even though Terian was about 3rd on the best friend list). With that done he contemplated his drawing before drawing a big furry mustache on Roi’s 2D face. Terian began to giggle and added a goatee. "I bet people would take Roi more seriously if he grew something like this!" He thought while he was giggling.
He suddenly stopped for a second. "Nah, I think that’d just make it worse. " He snorted mentally. He looked over and noticed that he could see his reflection in the glass. Terian, who was now definitely ignoring the glare of Kin, wondered over to the glass and stared at his reflection for a second before drawing a mustache on the face of his reflection. The blonde started giggling again and erased the fuzzy mustache in favor of a nice long handlebar mustache. He clapped a hand over his mouth to muffle his laughter.
Terian then drew large fuzzy eyebrows on his reflection in a furrowed expression. He laughed happily to himself and used his shirt to wipe the marker marks off of the glass so he wouldn’t have to do it later. He looked over at Kin before deciding to do only the polite thing to do. He lifted up his marker and gave Kin a happy smile. "Want me to draw some on your reflection too?" He asked innocently.

Kin stretched out on the floor and saw Terian roll his eyes. Though he wouldn’t see it, Kin returned the gesture. She was quickly running out of ideas on how to really get him angry. Breaking his sword only got him truly angry for maybe a minute. Kin hadn’t had ideas to start with in the first place much due to the fact that she didn’t know much about the shifter in the first place. Words had little merit anyways. At this point it didn’t seem like he was going to keep talking and with the pouty look plastered on his face he only looked more pitiful and sorry. It was just too bad Kin couldn’t feel sad for him.
Now what would make him mad? Kin’s mind started to wander while Terian started drawing again. The face on the wall looked familiar, or rather hard to forget and easy to remember. It looked like Ro; his hair made him a sort of a standout since it covered his eyes. Kin laughed in her head while Terian drew a moustache on his face. It would be funny to see Roi with a moustache or a beard and maybe even a goatee. It would look ridiculous with his hair covering pretty much half his face. But one thing nagged at her while Terian drew the guy. If Terian knew Roi either the guy was an extremely tolerant human or a shifter. Terian seemed pretty easygoing and Roi was pretty closed off. If there was one thing in common with them it must be that they were of the same species. They weren’t the most likely of friends. The same feeling came across her when she met Roi the first time way back in the dead of winter at Aeroswift. Of course Kin wasn’t very trusting of anyone and would only believe someone was human after a blood test. To her, anyone could be a shifter and if they were they all deserved to be like Terian and in a cage.
Maybe Kin could threaten Terian’s loved ones. It was below the belt but still not totally cruel. But that was dependent on how close Terian was to them… Kin was distracted in more ways than one. She kept an eye on Terian now drawing on his reflection. Kin thought he was being more immature than she could have imagined. He seemed around her age but still acted as if he was eight. ” Want me to draw some on your reflection too?” He had asked holding up the marker. Kin was still thinking about who she could threaten when he said that. "Huh?" She said in between thoughts and reality. She saw the marker in his hand and figured out what he was asking. ”Hell no! What’s wrong with you?” While laying down she kicked the glass right in front of his face. It wouldn’t be as satisfying as kicking him in his face for real would have been but it was as close as Kin was going to get.
She still needed to figure out whom to threaten. While counting the dots on the wall and keeping an eye on Terian she got her idea. He had originally said he had things to protect when she was trying to capture him and he said those ‘things’ were his siblings. The answer had been in front of her nose this whole time. She sat back up ready for a fight once more when she said, ”So didn’t you say you had siblings?” Kin wanted to lead him on and take her time with his punishment. Certainly this would get a reaction about him especially after she had seen his desperateness when she was trying to capture him. If she couldn’t get him mad this way her next step would be to try and get the keys to his cell so she could just beat him up. Kin gave him her evil grin waiting for him to walk into her game.

Terian didn’t seem that upset when Kin denied his asking of the fake mustache. He thought it was kind of funny that she seemed angry or something. Terian didn’t feel very angry at all right now, and he was the one in the cage!
He wondered back over to his wall and began to draw again, random pictures of random things he’s seen throughout his life filling up the wall pretty quickly. He never really got into drawing; he only figured it out when he got to the city. He enjoyed it though, and started drawing things he’s seen and slowly figuring out the structure of different things.
He paused in his drawing when he heard Kin ask him about his family and he smiled a little at the thought of his siblings. He wasn’t worried about Tasil; she once scared a bear away from their fish once by just growling at it. Terian was a little worried about Raen though, because Tasil was very blunt and honest and if he did something wrong Tasil would not hold back, and Raen was very sensitive to other people’s feelings.
Terian sighed quietly. "Yep, I have siblings. A little brother and an older sister. Why?" He kept reminding himself not to hint anything about where they could be. Terian definitely did not want to get this place ideas about two shifters out minding their own business out in the wilderness. "Although," He thought, "Tasil could probably destroy everyone who tried to come after them…man she’s so scary! I can’t believe I’m related to her…"
Terian yawned and rubbed his eyes when a few tears pricked at the corner of his eyes. "Well…uh, I think I’m going to take a nap if there isn’t anything else you wanna say… It gets pretty tiring…sitting in this cell all day." He pouted.

Being completely truthful, Kin could not honestly understand why someone locked up in a cell could be so damn happy. Joking, chipper, and lively. Kin couldn’t even be or act that happy in real life, so why in the world was Terian still his usual happy self? Kin began wondering if it was just a lost cause to even try to get the shifter mad. But Kin was not one to give up so easily. Case in point, when she went after Terian. They covered miles of ground that day and bled half to death but she still managed to capture him. So why in the world was it so hard to piss Terian off this time?
She debated with herself for a long time wondering if threatening his siblings would really do the trick. Kin watched him draw, admittedly partially jealous. Drawing was one of the things in the world Kin couldn’t do. Shoot an AK47 and hit a target fifty yards away, piece of cake. Drawing anything other than a stick figure, well that was impossible.
Knowing nothing about Terian’s siblings other than location might lead to trouble. She didn’t know if they were calm and peace loving like Terian or violent and malicious like Kin could be. But terrorizing him while she could was still appealing, it didn’t matter if she actually went out after them herself. They were probably being recorded at the time anyways so it would get back to someone eventually and Terian’s siblings would be put on a hit list.
” Yep, I have siblings. A little brother and an older sister. Why?" Perfect, he had just walked into it whether he knew it or not. So long as he would listen long enough Kin might actually have a shot of upsetting him.
Kin opened her mouth but the stupid cheery shifter interrupted her before she could speak, again. She really needed to do something about that mouth of his. "Well…uh, I think I’m going to take a nap if there isn’t anything else you wanna say… It gets pretty tiring…sitting in this cell all day.” Tiring to sit in a cell? Kin scoffed them remembered what she was supposed to say.
”Well, about your siblings, I was just confirming that you had them. I mean being a SEG soldier I have a responsibility to capture all the shifters I know about so…” Kin said trailing off figuring Terian would walk himself into her trap of words. It was big talk but nothing to back it up really. But Terian didn’t have to know that, so long as he was angry was all that mattered.
